Unlock with a master password, a key file, or both. KDBX 4 vaults are editable; KDBX 3 vaults open read-only. Folders, custom fields, attachments, icons, and entry history from other KeePass apps are preserved, so you can keep using any KeePass-compatible software alongside KeyPass X.
Vaults live in the KeyPass X folder of your iCloud Drive and appear on each device signed in to your Apple Account. The app watches for changes made elsewhere, reloads them, and asks before overwriting an entry that was edited on another device.
Face ID and Touch ID unlock a vault with a derived key kept in this device’s Keychain; the master password itself is never stored. Optionally share that unlock key with your other devices through iCloud Keychain. The app locks as soon as it goes to the background and clears copied values from the clipboard after the time you choose.
On iPhone and iPad, KeyPass X can suggest and fill logins in other apps and websites after Face ID, Touch ID, or the passcode. On Apple Watch, an encrypted snapshot of your vault is available on your wrist, protected by the watch passcode and Wrist Detection.
KeyPass X has no account, subscription, advertising, or analytics. The only data that leaves your device is what Apple’s iCloud services carry on your behalf, and it is always encrypted. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
