KeyPass X for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch works without an account, advertising, analytics, or a developer-operated server. The developer does not collect personal information from the app. Your passwords live only in the KeePass (KDBX) files you keep.
Each vault is a KDBX file encrypted with your master password and optional key file. The app decrypts it only in memory while it is unlocked, writes changes back as a verified encrypted file, keeps an encrypted copy of the previous version in the app’s own storage before each save, and locks as soon as it goes to the background. Vault contents are never logged, written to preferences, or sent to the developer.
Vaults you import or create are stored in the KeyPass X folder of your iCloud Drive, which Apple synchronizes between your devices under your Apple Account. The files stay encrypted in transit and at rest; Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy apply. Vaults opened from other locations stay where they are.
When you enable Face ID or Touch ID, a derived unlock key for that vault is stored in this device’s Keychain, protected by the device passcode and biometrics; your master password itself is never stored. If you choose to share the unlock key with your devices, the same key is placed in iCloud Keychain, readable only after Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode on devices signed in to your Apple Account. You can disable either at any time from the unlock options, which removes the stored key, from every device in the iCloud Keychain case.
On iPhone and iPad, enabling Password AutoFill saves a copy of each enabled vault’s entries in the device’s protected Keychain, readable only after Face ID, Touch ID, or the passcode. Website and username information for those entries is shared with iOS so it can suggest them in other apps and on websites; passwords are filled only after you choose one. Settings lets you remove any vault’s copy or all of them.
Sending a vault or an entry to Apple Watch stores an encrypted snapshot in your private iCloud (CloudKit) database and transfers it over the paired connection. The snapshot is encrypted with a key derived from the vault’s unlock key; only ciphertext and a revision marker reach iCloud, and the developer has no access to it.
Values you copy are placed on the clipboard for the time chosen in Settings and then cleared, are marked as concealed on Mac, and are not shared through Universal Clipboard.
The app contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not sell or share information with the developer or anyone else. The only data that leaves your device is what Apple’s iCloud, iCloud Keychain, and Watch services carry on your behalf, as described above.
You control everything: delete a vault file to remove it, remove AutoFill copies in Settings, disable Face ID or Touch ID or stop sharing the unlock key from the unlock options, and remove the Watch copy from the watch. Deleting the app removes its local files; Keychain items you did not disable first may remain until you reinstall and disable them.
